Horizons at New Canaan Country School is seeking a Marketing and Communications Intern for our summer program. The Marketing and Communications Intern will work with the Director of Communications, Development and Grants to develop digital and media products to enhance the program’s visibility across multiple communication channels. This role focuses on capturing the "Horizons story" while also coordinating stewardship projects to thank our community partners. About Horizons
Started in 1964 as a small summer program, Horizons at New Canaan Country School has grown to be a full-year kindergarten through grade nine academic and enrichment program serving 400 students from Stamford and Norwalk. The program aims to help close the opportunity gap experienced by underserved students by providing opportunities for academic and overall personal development so that they are able to pursue their dreams and fulfill their ultimate potential.
About the Horizons Summer Program
Horizons summer program, hosted at New Canaan Country School, serves close to 300 underserved children and youth in grades K-9 from Stamford and Norwalk. This six-week summer program gives students the opportunity to have new experiences, meet new friends, take part in academic and enrichment classes, eat nourishing breakfasts and lunches, swim and become part of a diverse family of caring teachers and staff. Horizons also exposes students to new experiences in the summer through field trips, arts and cultural events, and community-wide events and celebrations.
Overview
Reporting to the Director of Communications, Development and Grants, the Marketing and Communications Intern will develop an array of digital products to enhance program visibility among community members and donors. This role is responsible for capturing the "Horizons story" through high-quality photography, video, and testimonials. Additionally, the Intern will coordinate ongoing stewardship efforts to thank our partners and volunteers. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging leader with strong technical skills to build a professional portfolio within a vibrant, high-energy, and supportive school and non-profit community.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Take daily program photographs and videos to capture all program components and events for marketing efforts
- In coordination with the Director of Communications, Development and Grants create compelling content for social media
- Assist in coordination of planning program tours for donors and community partners
- Develop stewardship materials to recognize the contributions of volunteers, community partners and donors
- Produce a weekly video for social media
- Produce compelling end-of-summer multimedia presentations for program assemblies
Compensation
This position will receive a stipend of $3,728 for the summer based on a 6-hour workday. Horizons at NCCS provides daily breakfast and lunch as well.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of social media management and reporting platforms
- Positive attitude, team player and high level of maturity
- Ability to work autonomously and use critical thinking
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel)
- Proficiency with Canva and iMovie
- Education and/or Experience: Currently enrolled in college and pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related discipline
